Albion boss Gus Poyet has warned that Jake Forster-Caskey’s first team opportunities in the Championship will be hit by the reduction to five substitutes.
Forster-Caskey has resumed training with the Seagulls after resting since helping England reach the quarter-finals of the under-17s World Cup in Mexico at the start of the month.
The midfield prospect is hoping to be more involved with the first team this season but Poyet has revealed that is unlikely to happen following the controversial vote by Football League chairmen to cut the number of subs from seven to five.
Poyet, who slammed the decision at the weekend, told The Argus: “I was expecting him to be part of the first team, with options to slowly get into the 18. But with the new rule changing it to 16 I cannot see much future for him in the team. We’ll need ten injuries for him to get in.
“I am not going to get involved in any more fights or discussions with anyone because of a decision by the Football League. It’s their problem, so if he comes to see me for that reason I will tell him to go and talk to the PFA and Football League and the chairmen who voted for it.”
