Gus Poyet prepared Albion for their biggest test of pre-season and declared: “It’s all about decisions.”

The Seagulls trained at The Amex yesterday ahead of Saturday’s official opening of their new home against star-studded Tottenham.

It will be a third match in 11 days against top-flight opponents, following narrow defeats to Paris St-German of France and Olhanense of Portugal, but Poyet reckons this is the big one.

The former Spurs midfielder and assistant manager said: “Realistically Spurs are the best team we have played so far. I think they are better than Paris St-Germain.

“But if we beat them it doesn’t mean we will win the league or if we lose it doesn’t mean we will go down.”

Asked what he would be looking out for from his players he said: “Decisions. It’s about how players will deal with situations where they are in front of a very good opposition player.

“How to stop Gareth Bale, if he plays. Or Luka Modric or Aaron Lennon or Peter Crouch.

“Between the Premier League and the Championship there is a big gap so it should be a really different challenge.”

Albion kick-off their Championship campaign at home to Doncaster a week on Saturday.

Poyet added: “This team will be close to the starting XI against Doncaster. Not the same but close.”

Lewis Dunk remains in pole position to start the season all the time Poyet does not sign a new central defender.

Adam El-Abd and Tommy Elphick are reported to be on schedule in their recovery from injuries but Poyet is putting no target date on their return to action.

The build-up for Spurs continued yesterday with a final batch of 300 tickets put on sale. The club are also keen to fully test their catering and travel arrangements on their second ramp-up event.
