Mauricio Taricco has been ruled out of Albion's showpiece friendly against his old club Spurs at The Amex on Saturday.
Gus Poyet's 38-year-old assistant manager and fullback has not recovered from the shin and ankle injury he sustained against Paris Saint-Germain during last week's pre-season tour of Portugal.
Taricco told The Argus: "It's disappointing that I am not involved, because I like training and I like being fit. It is even worse at my age if you are missing training and fitness.
"But I got kicked and that's it. You get on with it."
Taricco expects to be available for Albion's first Championship fixture against Doncaster at The Amex on August 6.
"It's not too bad," he added. "It's getting better. Football wise I can run straight but twisting and turning and kicking the ball is still painful, so it will take another few days I hope."
