Albion went down 3-2 to a strong Tottenham side as The Amex was officially opened today.
Boss Gus Poyet will have seen plenty to encourage him in attack from his side – and a few problems to work on at the back.
The Seagulls needed just 11 minutes to go ahead and it was superb goal inkeeping with the celebratory mood around the new stadium.
Gary Dicker's clever dummy sent Craig Mackail-Smith scurrying away down the right and his low cross was fired home by Ashley Barnes.
The hosts dominated possession for a while after that and Kazenga LuaLua tested Brad Friedel with a drive.
However Spurs were in front at the interval with two goals from defenders in the final minutes of the half.
Younes Kaboul forced the ball home from close range after trickery and a low cross from Gareth Bale.
Then Vedran Corluka, whose afternoon was mainly about defensive duties against LuaLua, got forward from right-back and held off the winger's weak challenge before forcing a shot past Casper Ankergren's dive.
LuaLua took revenge in some style to level the scores on 62 minutes, cutting inside Corluka and flashing a low drive between sub keeper Heurelho Gomes and his near post.
Spurs went back ahead 20 minutes from time and the goal was a personal nightmare for Peter Brezovan, who had replaced Casper Ankergren in goal at the break.
Brezovan's intended pass out from the back went straight to Jake Livermore, who finished coolly for what proved to be the winner.
