SUPERSUB Will Buckley has forced his way into Albion’s starting line-up after scoring twice in a game for the first time in his career.

The £1 million former Watford winger is poised to make his full debut at home to Gillingham in the Carling Cup tomorrow night after his dramatic impact in the Seagulls’ opening 2-1 Championship victory against Doncaster Rovers at The Amex.

Buckley came off the bench to equalise seven minutes from the end and then stroke the winner deep into injury time.

Boss Gus Poyet will find room for him to start against the Gills, even if Will Hoskins recovers from a fresh injury problem, with Craig Mackail-Smith away on international duty for Scotland.

The early birthday present for Buckley, 23 on Friday, follows 112 appearances without scoring twice in a match for Watford and Rochdale.

Buckley, reflecting on his first double, told The Argus: “I couldn’t think of a better time, the first game in the new stadium. You don’t know what is going to happen, that’s the beauty of football.

“The dream is to score and to score two is unbelievable, especially to get the win I think we deserved in the end, because the second half performance was brilliant.

“We know the quality we’ve got and what we can do in this league. I’ve played in it before and we can definitely do well. To have the confidence to turn that game around is going to give us even more.”

Buckley drilled Albion level from 20 yards after replacing Matt Sparrow before capitalising on good work by fellow sub Craig Noone during seven minutes of added time.

Poyet said: “He has put me in a very difficult situation now. I need to put someone in there in place of Craig (Mackail-Smith). He is going to play, practically for sure.”

Former Bristol Rovers striker Hoskins, a doubt before the game with a hip injury, missed out.

Poyet revealed: “He was so unlucky it’s scary. He came back and in his first training session with us twisted his ankle. Then, when he cooled down, he started feeling the hip. He was close to being fit and he’ll be ready any day.”
