Albion were held 2-2 by Blackpool today after letting slip a two-goal lead at The Amex.

Veteran marksman Kevin Phillips fired in a superb 90th-minute volley, his second goal of the game, to give the visitors a point.

It was a richly entertaining match but the Seagulls will be disappointed to let their 100% record slip when they had seemed to be in total command.

Craig Mackail-Smith put them ahead in the 29th minute with a superbly created goal.

Craig Noone initially lost the ball out on the left wing but kept running and was found by Gary Dicker's pass.

Noone sped away and provided a perfect cross into the path of Mackail-Smith, whose header on the run found the bottom corner.

Inigo Calderon had earlier headed over from a free-kick won and taken by Noone during a spell on the right.

The Seagulls made a terrific start to the second period and took just five minutes to go further ahead.

Calderon was sent racing away down the right to win a corner, which Noone delivered low to the near post for Gordon Greer to flick on and Barnes to finish from close in.

Albion, and The Amex, were in full cry for a while and a third goal looked likely.

But nerves were put back on edge on the hour when Phillips brought his side back into the match with a far-post header.

Matt Gilks seemingly kept Blackpool's hopes alive with a stunning close-range save from Mackail-Smith after a low cross by sub Kazenga LuaLua, although it turned out the striker was offside.

Albion players also felt they should have had a spot kick for a foul on Barnes as he closed in on another low LuaLua cross right in front of goal.

But Phillips had the final say after a corner had been headed back across goal.
