ALBION’S new Spanish star Vicente needs time to get up to speed with the pace of English football.

That is the message from the Seagulls’ manager Gus Poyet as he weighs up whether to hand the former Valencia left winger his debut at Bristol City tomorrow.

Vicente had his third training session with Albion yesterday since signing a one-year deal and returning from 37 degrees heat in Spain earlier in the week to the wet and windy South Coast.

Poyet revealed: “He has found things different and he needs to adapt. Even when we play a small game, six v six or seven v seven, it’s totally different to Spain.

“In Spain it’s calm, you have got time, people let you play. Here it’s non-stop. The ball is coming in from everywhere, people rush in and go and get it again.

“It’s all about playing football for him, it’s not about money or a long-term contract, so the attitude and mentality is there. With the quality he has got he just needs to get into that rhythmn and that is up to me, the fitness coaches and all the coaches. The sooner the better.”

Vicente is not ready for a full 90 minutes and it is unclear what part, if any, he will play at Ashton Gate.

Poyet added: “He’s available, then if he will start or not or play a little bit or not will depend on the final decision of the manager.”
