Albion boss Gus Poyet has vowed to learn from the bitter taste of losing to arch rivals Crystal Palace.

But he will not be apologising to supporters for last night’s late capitulation at The Amex, which turned a 1-0 lead into a 3-1 defeat in the last ten minutes.

Poyet told The Argus: “If you are the manager of Real Madrid you don’t want to lose against Barcelona. Sometimes you do and it hurts. But I am sure every manager in the world learns from this and this was the biggest learning day, at least this season, for sure for me.

“The disappointment is massive but I will learn from my decisions – how I picked the team, what I was expecting from the players, reactions when they (Palace) scored and it was 1-1.

“There were too many faces down, 1-1 is 1-1. It’s not bad, worse when you lose so it’s good, it’s interesting, because in another situation if you gave me the chance now to do things I would do a few differently and say a few things to a few players in a different way.

“The way I have done it didn’t work, or only worked for 25 minutes. The last 45 minutes was one of the worst performances of the season and you don’t expect that against Palace.”

Albion have taken only one point from the last three games and have gone four matches without a win after losing to Liverpool in the Carling Cup but they are still fifth in the table.

Poyet added: “I never say sorry, I don’t say sorry to anyone. That is the easiest way to get away with a bad decision or situation, I don’t like that. I say sorry when I do something I couldn’t control. I was in total control, so I’m not going to say sorry to the fans or anyone.”
