Albion are taking a look at Darren Carter as they look to beef up their midfield.
The 6ft 2in former Birmingham City and Preston player is on trial with the Seagulls during the international break.
Carter, 27, played in the Championship for both North End and Millwall, on loan, last season before running out of contract at Deepdale.
Albion boss Gus Poyet said: “We always bring in two or three to have a look at when we get a chance.
“He is a player I haven’t seen in a while.”
Poyet admitted after Saturday’s 3-1 defeat at Ipswich that he needed more presence in midfield Albion are likely to face their former striker Chris Wood when they go to Birmingham later this month after he extended his loan spell from West Bromwich until January.
The New Zealand international, whow as on loan with the Seagulls last season, has scored seven goals in eight games with Birmingham.
Meanwhile former Albion youngster Wes Fogden is on his way back into the Football League after agreeing a loan move from Havant and Waterlooville to Bournemouth with a view to a full transfer.
