Darren Carter could seal a deal with Albion – by shining in the reserves.
The former Preston, Millwall and Birmingham midfield trialist is expected to feature for the second string at Bournemouth today (2pm).
Manager Gus Poyet said: “I want to see him in a game of eleven v eleven. He has done very well with us.
“On the ball he was outstanding. I want to see how much he runs, how much he tackles, things like that.”
Steve Cook has also been lined up for a run-out in a team otherwise made up of prospects from the development squad.
Will Hoskins is not being risked as he continues his quest for peak fitness following persistent hip trouble.
