Gus Poyet reckoned Albion showed appetite for a battle as they drew 0-0 with Hull City today.

The Seagulls had conceded goals and chances far too easily in their three previous matches.

But they were more resilient against a decent Tigers outfit - and rode their luck too as Aaron Mclean and Rob Koren hit the bar.

Boss Poyet had called for his side to be tougher to break down and said: "I think we were better today. I'm pleased.

"One of the players asked me in the dressing room after the game 'If the result was a 1-0 defeat would you say the same after the game to the players?' and I said 'Yes'.

"That is because I was pleased with the way we competed and pleased with the way we tried to win the game all the time.

"I was pleased with how the players committed themselves, the tackling and the fighting.

"Then it's a football game.

"If somebody slips in defence and it's a one-on-one with the goalkeeper, or it's a shot from 40 yards and they put it in the top corner, that's football. We accept that.

"We don't accept when the team is not there. When you don't see the team fighting for it.

"I think we did (fight) today.

"It could have been any result - 1-0 to them, 1-0 to us, 2-1 one way or the other, or 4-4.

"But I think for us it's great we kept a clean sheet. We needed it."
