Gus Poyet has refused to criticise the way Ryan Harley took his penalty at Millwall.
Harley rolled a spot kick gently to home goalkeeper David Forde as the Seagulls drew 1-1 on Tuesday.
The midfielder scored four penalties for Exeter last season, including a late winner against Charlton.
Bur he got it all wrong at The Den as, after strolling up to the ball, he played it tamely to Forde, who had already gone to ground.
Poyet said: “I’ve seen him score plenty (of penalties). I don’t know if he has taken one like that but it doesn’t matter.
“If it goes in, it’s a good penalty. If he doesn’t score, it’s not a good penalty.”
Poyet made three changes at Millwall, with regular spot kick taker Ashley Barnes among those left out of the starting line-up.
He is expected to make alterations again when West Ham visit The Amex on Monday. Vicente is a likely starter, having been kept out of Tuesday’s game due to a tight muscle in his left thigh.
Will Buckley will also be competing for a place after recovering from his second hamstring injury of the season.
Poyet said: “Will is training with us. The injury was similar to the one he had before so we gave him an extra week.”
Albion slipped to tenth last night after Leicester beat Watford 2-0.
