Albion boss Gus Poyet is banking on the international experience of new Chilean signing Gonzalo Jara Reyes giving a helping hand to his Championship rookies.

The versatile 26-year-old has joined the Seagulls on loan from West Brom for their next 13 league games, starting with Monday's visit by West Ham and ending with Southampton's trip to The Amex on January 2.

Jara Reyes played for Chile in last year's World Cup in South Africa and won his 49th cap in their 4-1 defeat in Argentina in a World Cup qualifier a fortnight ago.

Poyet believes that type of experience, coupled with 60 appearances for West Brom in the Championship and Premier League since joining them from Chilean giants Colo Colo in August 2009, will be invaluable as Albion try to halt a six-match winless run and accompanying slide from early leaders to tenth in the table.

Poyet told The Argus: “In the national team he plays at centre half in three at the back, then at West Brom he played at right or left-back and as a central midfielder, so he gives us plenty of options.

“He is a defensive player with quality on the ball.

“He is very aggressive, he can play in different positions, but the best part is he has got 50-odd international games in South America, which are the hardest kind of games you can play in.

“That, in terms of experience, is like 500 games in the Premiership, which for me is perfect. Then he needs to make sure he knows how we play and then I can manage the position he plays in, depending on how quickly he adapts.”

Will Hoskins is expected to make his full home debut up front against West Ham after recovering from hip trouble which delayed his first start until Tuesday's 1-1 draw at Millwall.

Poyet said of his £500,000 summer signing from Bristol Rovers: “When he is completely pain-free and fit to play he's very, very good, something totally different to what we've got.

“He can link, he can play up front, on the left and he is very good in front of goal, so the more he plays the better, but he needs to be fit.”
