Albion chief Gus Poyet has reiterated his dislike of the loan system.

The Seagulls' defensive record has improved but the winless run has continued since Poyet drafted in goalkeeper Steve Harper from Newcastle, defender Gonzalo Jara Reyes from West Brom and striker Billy Paynter from Leeds on temporary deals.

"I don't like loans, because they come in and don't know the way we play," Poyet said. "That takes three or four weeks. During that time if you win fine, if you don't it's difficult, so it has been really tough to make decisions about bringing players."

Poyet is philosophical about the run of misfortune which has accompanied Albion's nine-match sequence without a win in the Championship.

"At the moment it is the typical bad run of any team in the world," he said. "When things don't go for you or it's not working or you are not playing well you miss a penalty like we did at Millwall or concede the sort of goal we did at Millwall, against West Ham and at Watford.

"When things don't go right you get two injuries in two games in the warm-up and one of your key players gets injured in 20 minutes, because Liam Bridcutt has been one of the most consistent players in the team."
