Albion boss Gus Poyet has admitted facing some difficult decisions as he plots an end to the home run of Championship leaders Southampton.

Vicente, Gonzalo Jara Reyes, Marcos Painter and Will Hoskins missed yesterday’s victory over Barnsley through injury but they should all be fit for the trip to St Mary’s on November 19, which follows the international break.

Poyet said: “If I was one of the players I wouldn’t be happy if the manager dropped me after a first win in ten games.

“Vicente, Marcos Painter, Hoskins and Jara will definitely be back and that will help us, especially where we are going. We are going to the team at the top of the league.”

Southampton, runners-up to Albion in League One last season, have won a club record 17 home league games in succession, 19 in all competitions.

Poyet said: “When we were top last year and people were coming to us they had nothing to lose. Anything you get from the game is great. Now it’s the opposite for us.

“They are top for a reason. They are the best team in the league and they’ve been outstanding at home. We are going to go there and play. If we get something it will be spectacular. We are going to be in every single newspaper and on TV talking about how we stopped Southampton, which is great.”

Jara Reyes, right, on loan from West Brom, will still be linking up with Chile for two World Cup qualifiers, despite his knee injury. Poyet said: “The problem is he needs to go, because of the rules. The doctor needs to see him. It’s not easy to pull players out of their national team.

“He is suspended for Friday (Uruguay away), so we will see if he is able to play on Tuesday (Paraguay home).”
