Loan star Gonzalo Jara Reyes is expected to miss Albion's showdown at Southampton – despite an early exit from the Chile squad.

Jara Reyes was one of five players shown the door by national coach Claudio Borghi yesterday after missing a 10pm team curfew on Tuesday.

However, despite his potential early return to England, Seagulls boss Gus Poyet has revealed the man hired from West Brom is expected to be out for three more weeks with a knee injury.

Jara Reyes was already banned for tomorrow’s World Cup qualifier against Uruguay and would not have been fit for Tuesday’s clash with Paraguay.

Poyet said: “He is not going to play for three weeks. We just need to get on with it. That’s the point of having a squad.

“You hope not to have injuries and last season, apart from Alan Navarro, we were lucky.”

The five late-arriving Chile stars, including Birmingham winger Jean Beausejour, have caused a major controversy in their homeland.

Jara Reyes is expected to face the Chilean media today.

National boss Claudio Borghi told reporters: “They arrived 45 minutes late and not in a fit state for a Chilean international or a professional footballer.”
