Albion are running out of time and hope in their quest to add another loan signing to the squad before the 5pm deadline.

Manager Gus Poyet revealed to The Argus earlier this week that he was targeting only Premier League class players to give the Seagulls something extra.

He said this morning: "We've been trying a few things to improve the team dramatically. It's very difficult.

"Things will have to turn 180 degrees for us to do something because they were practically no's. A couple were 'Okay give me a few more hours' but it sounds like a no.

"We have learnt a lot about the level of the division, the opposition, about what is needed, so I have changed now and we are going for really different class, like Gonzalo Jara (Reyes) or not at all."

Jara Reyes, on loan from West Brom, will still be missing for Coventry's visit to The Amex on Saturday and next Tuesday's trip to Derby but should recover from his knee injury to face Nottingham Forest at home on December 3.

Spanish playmaker Vicente is back in contention for the Coventry game but Poyet has cast doubt over the match fitness of the former Valencia star following his six-week lay-off with thigh trouble.

"He is available," Poyet said. "Unfortunately for Vicente he is fitter than when he arrived but his match fitness is at the same level, so maybe we need to go through that process again."

Meanwhile, Bournemouth are keen to keep Albion defender Steve Cook on loan for longer.

Cook's month with the Cherries expires after Saturday's game against Oldham but Albion are likely to agree to Bournemouth's request, especially now that Adam El-Abd has receovered from a stress fracture of the foot.
