Albion are bracing themselves for a five-figure fine following a misconduct charge from the FA for the second time this season.

The Seagulls have been charged for failing to control their players during last Saturday’s 3-0 defeat at Southampton.

Chairman Tony Bloom and managing director Ken Brown are discussing whether to lodge an appeal. They have until 4pm on Monday to respond.

Albion were fined £5,000 after pleading guilty to the same offence arising from a flare-up in the Carling Cup tie against Gillingham earlier this season.

This charge relates to the second penalty awarded by referee Peter Walton against Inigo Calderon for a foul on Rickie Lambert in the match at St Mary’s.

Albion players surrounded Walton and Ashley Barnes appeared to make contact with the referee.

Walton had earlier awarded Saints a hotly disputed penalty against Lewis Dunk for a tug on Jose Fonte, which took place outside the area.

Mauricio Taricco was sent off for swearing in the ensuing mass protest but the paperwork submitted to the club by the FA refers only to the second penalty.

Albion, meanwhile, have confirmed Dunk was not cautioned during the game.
