Romain Vincelot has admitted he would not have scored his first Championship goal had Albion been allowed to take a quick free-kick.

The substitute left-back was still on his way forward when referee Gavin Ward's reluctance to let them get on with things had boss Gus Poyet up in arms.

Poyet felt his side should have been allowed to take a quick one.

But Ward pulled them back and, when Liam Bridcutt eventually delivered the free-kick into the box, Vincelot produced a stunning header for what turned out to be the winner.

The Frenchman said: "When they first played it I was still making my way up the pitch. Then the referee said ‘No’ and I got in the box.

"In a way that's a good assist from the ref! But it's not a mistake, he was correct."
