Gus Poyet refused to point the finger at goalkeeper Casper Ankergren after a costly error today.
The Seagulls boss was encouraged by his side's display in their 1-0 defeat at Middlesbrough.
But he admitted there were things they could have done better - at both ends of the pitch.
Scott McDonald scored the only goal after Ankergren fumbled a cross.
Poyet said: "We are not talking individuals.
"Sometimes it is nice to say someone was man-of-the-match but we are a team so there is nothing to talk about here.
"It was the difference in the game but there are things we can do better – hitting the target and improving little things."
Poyet felt his side performed pretty well against the promotion chasers.
He added: "If you go by the stats, they had more shots than us.
"But it was that type of game where the one who takes a chance, somehow, will win.
"I think we played better than in the last few weeks.
"We looked more a team that was pushing to get a result.
"Of course at the end we started taking risks and the game became crazy.
"But I'm quite pleased with the performance."
