GUS Poyet has called on his depleted Albion side to give it their best shot against Championship leaders Southampton at The Amex today.

The Seagulls are missing ELEVEN players through injury or suspension for the South Coast derby.

Defender Steve Cook has been recalled from his loan spell at Bournemouth ahead of a probable £170,000 move to the League One club later this month.

Cook is needed because Lewis Dunk collected his tenth booking in Saturday’s 2-0 defeat at Coventry, Albion’s fourth in a row without scoring a goal.

Dunk’s automatic two-match ban also rules him out of Saturday’s FA Cup tie at home to Wrexham.

Alan Navarro is suspended as well for Saints’ visit afer his fifth yellow card at Coventry. His midfield absence is compensated by Liam Bridcutt’s return from a one-match ban but winger Craig Noone (hamstring) has joined an extensive casualty list.

Poyet said: “The only thing we can do is put in there the best team we’ve got and try to compete. If Southampton are at their best it’s going to be very, very difficult.

“If not and maybe we do things a little bit more simply and cleverly you have always got a chance.”

Southampton, promoted as runners-up to Albion last season, were surprisingly beaten 1-0 by Bristol City at St Mary’s on Friday night, their only home league defeat of 2011.

Poyet said: “They had a Championship team in League One. They were the better team last year on paper. It’s going to be a nice game to play, one of those where you don’t need to do too much with the players.

“You just say we are playing Southampton and you know they are going to be there. You don’t need to do any kind of motivation or preparation.

“You know what you get as well, because Southampton play one way and they have got two or three players who are key. If you stop them then you are going to have a better day.”

Jake Forster-Caskey came off the bench at Coventry in the second half. The England under 18’s midfielder is in contention again today with rookie defender Grant Hall, who was an unused sub for the second match running.

Poyet added: “The good thing about Jake is he really cares for the club, he loves the club and is desperate to play. If I could pick 18 every week he would be in and out. Now that we have got many problems he is going to be there as on
