Peter Brezovan has vowed to grab his opportunity as Albion’s No. 1.

The 6ft 4in Slovak makes his first away start since April in the FA Cup third round replay at Wrexham, now pushed back to tomorrow night.

Brezovan has taken over the gloves from Casper Ankergren but boss Gus Poyet is still looking at the goalkeeping situation and handed a trial last week to ex-Manchester City and Colombian international David Gonzalez.

Brezovan said: “I know he is David, I don’t know his name! It’s a normal thing.

“Pokey (Michael Poke) has gone to Bristol Rovers (on loan) and the gaffer wanted to bring in another keeper. You have to face it, with Casper, and keep working to keep our positions.

“I’ve got another year. If you want to stay at a club for a long time you have to play. You can’t be just like a useless second or third choice. This is my opportunity and I am going to do everything to stay in goal.”

Brezovan played in all seven FA Cup ties last season, including replays at Woking and FC United of Manchester, as Albion reached the last 16.

They have a big incentive to go through, with Newcastle at home awaiting the winners in round four.

Brezovan said: “I never followed cups back home, I only knew about leagues. I know now the FA Cup is a big thing in England.

“I don’t want to think about Newcastle, I’m only thinking about the Wrexham game. I don’t care who we are going to play after that.”
