Mystery surrounds reports linking Michael Owen with a shock move to Albion.
The Seagulls refuse to comment on transfer speculation but The Argus understands Owen is not on their radar.
Albion are preparing a bid for the 32-year-old Manchester United star, according to a report in The Sun today.
Speculation has also been rife among supporters about Owen moving to The Amex after one leading bookmaker had Albion as hot favourites to sign him.
Owen has connections outside football with Albion chairman Tony Bloom through their mutual interest in horseracing.
The reports linking the ex-England, Liverpool and Real Madrid striker with a move south coincide with manager Gus Poyet revealing to The Argus Albion have been priced out of a move for Portsmouth target man Dave Kitson.
