Albion will make a late decision on Vicente for today’s home game against Barnsley.

Boss Gus Poyet has described the Spanish playmaker as “touch and go” to be involved in the squad for the Yorkshiremen’s visit to The Amex.

Vicente has been affected by an inflamed thigh tendon since featuring in the opening game at Swindon in the Capital One Cup.

He missed last Saturday’s trip to Hull and felt below-par when only used as a late substitute against Cardiff on Tuesday.

The 31-year-old former Valencia star only started 12 games last season. Albion are hoping to get more out of him following his first pre-season with the club.

Poyet said: “He went past the hardest part of the summer, running and suffering. He really impressed everyone because we thought now with this base in the fitness side he is going to be much better.

“Unfortunately in the last two weeks he’s had some problems, so we took a decision after Swindon to make sure he was able to be on the bench on Tuesday, but it didn’t work. We’ll see how he goes now.”
