Albion set to sign French midfielder

Albion are poised to land French central midfielder Therry Racon on loan from Charlton to boost their depleted squad.

Racon, 23, joined Charlton from Guingamp on a four-year deal at the start of the season for a fee of around £430,000.

He previously had a spell on loan to Lorient from Marseille.

Racon could go straight into the side against Swindon at Withdean on Saturday, with Adam El-Abd ruled out by a medial knee ligament injury sustained in Tuesday's 2-1 defeat at Huddersfield.

Albion fear El-Abd could be sidelined for four weeks, although that will not be confirmed until they receive the results of a scan later today.

The Seagulls will also be missing both first choice fullbacks against Swindon. Matt Richards is missing for up to four weeks with a hamstring injury and Andrew Whing begins a two-match ban.

Kerry Mayo will continue to deputise for Richards at leftback, while Tommy Fraser is favourite to fill in for Whing at rightback after playing there in the first half for the reserves at Crystal Palace last night.

What do you think?

There are enough foreign players in this country spoilling our game, look how the national side cant compete any more the games no better for it and dick knight is simply jumping on the bandwagon, We dont need him we need proper investment in quality proven players in this country. Once again the chairman has let he fans of this great football club down, yet again. Dick out!

You idiot ! Oh perhaps we should have sought out Setven Gerrard or Frank Lampard for a couple of months. It is a short term solution to a short term problem. Yes a clear out and reinvestment in players is required - but this needs to be done at the end of season NOT with 9 games to go. Lets see what division we are in next season before we start splashing the cash. I personally would prefer to be sucessful in this division rather than struggle in the Championship and get relegated. A team that is winning is so much more appealing. We need to hang in where we are until Falmer is ready. (all in my humble opinion of course).

Great work from manager and chairman to get this guy. Should be pretty decent if he cost Charlton £430,000. Hopefully another like Richards and Whing who came here in poor form but have found their feet at the Albion.

I am sure you are a wind-up merchant as your posts re Albion stories are the most pathetic I have seen

Come on Frank - change the tune. You're "potless dick" posts are almost as repetitive as Martyn's "we've got 26 players and they're all sh*t" posts. Quite amusing though that Barry Lloyd is now not even going to France to get his french players. At least we're saving money somewhere.

He's not the only wind-up merchant, this site attracts so many its take a while to find the intelligent comment. A good signing and lets get behind the team Saturday and see where that puts us in the league. Winning everytime beats getting beat everytime. Been there, ask Derby.

Frank is either a fool, enjoys winding people up or a combo of the two, I actually think it is the latter. Annoying as he is it is best to ignore him as the buffoon is playing to a ready audience.

Welcome to the new Frenchie and come on the Albion!

Isn't it time McFaul was given a run out?

I question for everyone... I dont go to every match as i play county football but go to as many home/away as possible. why would they bring in a midfielder when we have just lost a centre half??? who have we got to replace el-abd ?
not a dig but this is beyond me anyone possibly inform me?
Posted by: Martyn on 1:48pm Thu 20 Mar 08
Nathan - El-Abd has been playing recently in midfield although with Westlake capable of playing there as well as twelve others in the squad I question whether we needed another one!

The lack of cover in the full-back positions is alarming.

As for the comment that he must be a good player because Charlton paid £430K. Newcastle paid £6m for Marcelino but he wasn't a good player!

Luke - If McFaul was good enough we wouldn't have signed the Frenchman!

martyn cheers for that. i did know he played midfield but for some reason thought he had mmoved back to defence

who's Setven or more to the point who really is the idiot (apart from potless dick knight of course) or should that read off course as he is well off track with his penny pinching cheap players he makes available for Deanno. How he greatest manager to ever walk this earth puts up with such a dick i dunno
