Stuart Murdoch has confirmed his interest in becoming Albion's new full-time goalkeeping coach.

The former MK Dons manager has been interviewed for the post vacated by Portsmouth-bound John Keeley.

The Argus revealed on Wednesday that Sompting-based Murdoch is favourite to succeed Keeley, who is off to Pompey as Academy goalkeeping coach.

He said: "I've spoken to Dean Wilkins and I would jump at the opportunity."

Murdoch, a goalkeeper with Blackpool in his playing days, was in charge of MK Dons from May 2002 to November 2004, a turbulent period in which the re-named club went into administration and moved from Wimbledon to Milton Keynes.

He joined Bournemouth as part-time goalkeeping coach in July 2005 and briefly became caretaker-manager last September in-between Sean O'Driscoll's departure to Doncaster Rovers and the appointment of Kevin Bond.

Since then Murdoch has been working as a goalkeeping assessor for the FA and helping expand a football memorabilia framing business run by his wife Sue.

He said: "I have been going around mainly the south of England assessing goalkeepers for all levels of the international set-up, from under 16 right the way through to the full England squad.

"I've spent a lot of time watching Ben Foster and Scott Carson and I watched Scott Flinders a couple of times as well while he was on loan at Brighton.

"I would like to think I am as well qualified as anybody but the manager will make his decision."
