Horsham YMCA could be handed an unlikely reprieve despite the fact they cannot finish outside the relegation zone.
YM thought they were down after losing 5-0 at Cray Wanderers last weekend but it has since been suggested a plan to change the format of the non-league pyramid could see the side finishing second from bottom in Ryman division one south retaining their status.
The news increases the importance of Saturday's clash with bottom club Molesey who are currently seven points behind YM with a game in hand.
Boss John Suter said: "Although it is nothing concrete the possibility of avoiding relegation cannot be ignored. It would be frustrating to finish bottom and then find out we would have stayed up if we were second bottom."
