Boss John Gregory apologised to supporters after Crawley crashed to their heaviest home defeat to six years.
Gregory admitted he got his team selection and tactics wrong as Reds were thrashed 4-0 by Rochdale to slip to 19th in League One.
There were boos at the final whistle after two goals from Peter Vincenti and one apiece for Calvin Andrew and Matt Done earned Rochdale their biggest league win for more than four years.
Gregory said: “I have to take full responsibility. I want to apologise to the fans for that performance because it wasn’t good enough.
“I don’t think I have ever been involved in a game where my team has lost at home by that score. The fans were singing that they were embarrassed but I am more embarrassed than them.
“I won’t duck the issue. I take responsibility for the way we set up, the tactics, the substitutions and the overall very poor performance.”
