Crawley have increased their firepower by signing former Wrexham and Crewe forward Mathias Pogba until the end of the season.

Pogba was a free agent having left Italian Serie B outfit Pescara before Christmas and had been on trial with Dutch club Den Haag and Scottish Premier League side Kilmarnock.

The 24-year-old becomes interim manager Dean Saunders’ eighth signing since taking over the reins from John Gregory at the end of December and is likely to make his debut in the crucial clash with fellow strugglers Yeovil on Saturday if he receives international clearance in time.

Pogba – the brother of Juventus star Paul – previously worked with Saunders at Wrexham, where he scored 16 goals in 71 games, before joining Crewe where he hit 21 goals in 73 appearances.

The 6ft 2in forward – who has two caps for Guinea - can either play out wide or through the middle and will boost the options available to Saunders up front after he missed out on signing a striker on deadline day.

Saunders said: “I have been looking for a striker to give us some more options and I’m delighted to have got Mathias to the club. He can play anywhere across the front or out wide so he gives us options.

“He’s got all the attributes and he has proved before he can score goals at this level. I think he could make a big contribution for us over the next few months.”
