Crawley Town slipped back into the League One relegation zone after a 5-0 hammering at Walsall.

On-loan Manchester City striker Jordy Hiwula scored either side of half-time while Kieron Morris, Andy Taylor and Jordan Cook were on target after the interval to earn Walsall a resounding win.

Reds were so poor that they failed to have an effort on target all night and would have lost by more but for goalkeeper Brian Jensen.

The only positive for Crawley was that none of their rivals near the foot of the table managed to win although draws for Crewe and Notts County saw them drop to third from bottom.

Walsall took control right from kick-off as they camped in the Crawley half and it became a question of whether they could break Reds down.

Kieron Morris stung the palms of Brian Jensen with a well-hit shot from 20 yards and Kelly Youga was forced to clear a cross from Romaine Sawyer over his own bar.

Such was their dominance it was no surprise when the Saddlers took the lead in the 16th minute.

Sawyer linked well with Morris in midfield and Morris threaded a clever ball into the path of Hiwula who slotted his shot across Jensen and inside the far post.

Crawley continued to defend deep and invite pressure on to themselves with Walsall happy to keep possession as they probed for an opening.

The only positive for Crawley was that they were limiting the hosts to long-range efforts. Jensen had to be alert once again to push away a ferocious 20-yard shot from Michael Cain while Adam Chambers shot over the bar from distance.

Saunders brought on Gwion Edwards in place of Ryan Dickson at half-time but it did nothing to change the pattern of the game.

Jensen made fine saves to deny Cain and Tom Bradshaw but could do nothing when Hiwula curled a shot into the top corner from the edge of the area to make it 2-0 in the 65th minute.

Walsall wrapped up the game two minutes later when Morris unleashed a dipping effort which flew past Jensen and went in off the underside of the bar.

A miserable night for the 97 travelling fans was made worse as Walsall scored two more in the final ten minutes.

Taylor fired past the luckless Jensen from long-range to make it 4-0 before substitute Cook burst clear to finish coolly at the end.
