Crawley Town’s wait for a home win goes on after the slumped to a 1-0 defeat to Yeovil Town.

A stunning first half goal from Harry Cornick proved enough to settle a low quality contest in which Reds failed to register a single shot on target.

Lee Barnard and Sonny Bradley did hit the woodwork either side of the interval but Yeovil – who had not won away all season - had enough chances to have been 3-0 up by half-time.

It means Crawley have scored just once in four games at the Checkatrade.com Stadium under boss Mark Yates this season and have slipped to third from bottom in League Two.

Crawley made a bright start and went close after just two minutes when Lee Barnard stretched to meet Roarie Deacon’s cross at the far post but saw his effort go wide.

The visitors responded and had three glorious chances before they eventually took the lead.

Liam Donnelly almost headed a cross from Cornick into his own net before two terrible mistakes from Jon Ashton went unpunished.

Ryan Bird shot wide when cleaned through after Ashton had completely missed his clearance and then Cornick’s effort was saved after he latched on to a weak back-header from the veteran defender.

Cornick made amends with a stunning opening goal. Crawley gave the Glovers midfielder too much time and space to cut in from the left and he made them pay with an unstoppable shot into the top corner from 25 yards.

The closest Reds came to levelling before the break was when Lee Barnard headed against the outside of a post from close range.

Reds boss Mark Yates brought on Lewis Young in place of Conor Henderson at half-time in a bid to inject some pace into Crawley’s play.

The home side were almost level within a minute of the restart when Sonny Bradley met Luke Rooney’s free kick at the far post but couldn’t hit the target.

Bradley had an even better chance on the hour mark when Rooney’s corner found him completely unmarked but the Reds skipper’s header came back off the bar.

Yeovil could have wrapped it up with seven minutes to go when Bird broke clear from the halfway line but his shot was easy for Woodman.

Substitute Ross Jenkins almost marked his debut with a late equaliser only for his glancing header from Bobson Bawling’s cross to flash just wide of the far post.

Cornick had another chance to seal the points in injury time when he broke clear only to be denied by Woodman again.
