Mark Yates hailed the spirit of his Crawley Town players after a late goal from Shamir Fenelon earned them a hard-fought 1-1 draw at home to Plymouth Argyle.

Argyle dominated for long periods of the game but had to wait until the 57th minute to break the deadlock when Ryan Brunt headed home amid Crawley claims for handball.

Fenelon was brought on as a substitute as Crawley chased an equaliser and netted his first goal for the club with seven minutes to go from a Josh Yorwerth knock-down.

Yates said: “When you go a goal down against a team which has won nine out of their last 13 away games you do fear the worst but we stuck at it and got a deserved equaliser.

“We don’t draw too many (it was only Crawley’s second draw since August) but it was a really good point against a team I expect to win promotion this season.

“We had to dig in and the players showed good spirit. They had a lot of the ball but neither goalkeeper was really tested that much.

"We’ve had a tough few weeks but the players responded brilliantly as I thought they would.”
