Crawley Town's new owner was given a vivid picture of the challenge his club face in League Two as they lost 5-1 at home to Oxford - having led.

Ziya Eren waved to fans from the pitch and went on to the terracing to pose for photos ahead of the clash with the promotion chasers.

But Reds caved in at the back in the second half having been cheered off at the break, when the score was 1-1.

The hosts produced some sparkling football going forward in the first half and led through Joe McNerney's first goal for the club.

But Chris Maguire levelled before the interval and Oxford repeatedly cut through in the second half.

McNerney struck from close range on 27 minutes in a scramble following a corner in which Gavin Tomlin saw his shot blocked.

Matt Harrold and McNerney both saw efforts blocked from close range as Reds caused problems.

But they were fortunate not to concede a penalty as Simon Walton seemed to tug down Danny Hylton.

Maguire levelled on 38 minutes with a powerful drive after Alex MacDonald cut the ball back from the right.

Callum O'Dowda guided Oxford into the lead just two minutes after the break and they took charge from then.

Liam Sercombe, Maguire from the penalty spot and George Waring added to their tally.

It would have been a few more but for some fine saves from young goalkeeper Jack Rose, on loan from West Brom, on his debut.
