Sussex have given wicketkeeper Callum Jackson a one-year contract as they start work on their plans for next season.

Jackson is the first of ten out-of-contract players to agree a new deal to stay at Hove after enjoying a breakthrough first season at Sussex.

The 19-year-old from Eastbourne made his debut in first class, List A and t20 cricket having signed a junior professional contract in March.

Jackson said: “I’m happy and very honoured to have signed a contract for the County I was born in.

“Sussex have a reputation for having produced a long line of wicket-keepers and that’s another thing that makes it so special. I know that this is only the start of a long journey and there is lots of work to be done.”

Jackson made his first class debut against Australia in August and also played three games in both the YB40 and FL t20 while regular wicketkeeper Ben Brown was nursing a broken finger.

Sussex coach Mark Robinson said: “Callum showed at the back end of the season that he was comfortable in the first-team environment.

"He has a lot of hard work infront of him but with a lot of determination there is nothing to stop him having a long and successful career."
