Sussex coach Mark Robinson has confirmed that Ollie Robinson has been given a contract until the end of the season.

Robinson marked his first class debut with a century in the first innings against Durham on Sunday and followed it up with four wickets yesterday.

The 21-year-old was given a deal after impressing in a second team game two weeks ago having been sacked by Yorkshire last summer for “unprofessional actions”.

Mark Robinson said: “Ollie did really well when he came down during pre-season and we took the opportunity to sign him for the rest of the season.

“When you sign any player you always look into their history but everybody deserves a second chance. Young players will make mistakes but all I’ve asked of him is to be honest with me as I don’t want any surprises.

“For a youngster to come in on debut and play the way he has is fantastic. To score a hundred and take four wickets is dream-like, whatever happens from here.”
