Sussex hope a return to Horsham will help them ease their relegation fears.

A run of just one win in their last eight games has dashed the title ambitions of Ed Joyce’s men and seen them turn into a battle to beat the drop.

Today’s clash with Nottinghamshire at Cricketfield Road could be pivotal in their quest to remain in division one with the visitors sitting just a point above them.

They will be boosted by their recent record at Horsham where they have won four of their last five Championship matches and have only lost once since 1998.

Batsman Chris Nash always looks forward to playing at his home ground but will be particularly relishing the prospect after rediscovering his form in recent weeks.

Having made just one half century in his first 14 innings this season the 32-year-old has made centuries in the last two matches to help secure draws against Warwickshire and Somerset.

Nash said: “It was hard work a month ago for the batsmen with some of the pitches we played on so it is really nice to come through it.

“I’ve been playing pretty steadily in Twenty20 but to score back to back hundreds in the Championship was obviously very pleasing.

“I genuinely don’t feel I am doing anything different apart from the fact you can trust the ball a bit more.

“When you have four or five games on wickets like we did it means that when you do get in you want to make the most of it.

“Hopefully I can keep it going. It’s always nice to score runs at Horsham as I grew up playing there but the most important thing is we get a good result.

“The table is very tight so if we could string a few wins together we’d shoot right up.”

Sussex are still without seamers Chris Jordan, Ajmal Shahzad, Jimmy Anyon and Lewis Hatchett as they seeks to continue a run of just one defeat in their last 13 home games against Nottinghamshire.
