Mike Yardy and Ben Brown both scored hundreds as Sussex boosted their Championship survival hopes with some aggressive batting on the third day at Hove.
Yardy, who is retiring at the end of the season, made 124 and Brown an undefeated 106 as Sussex piled up 493-7 in reply to Yorkshire’s 494.
It was their biggest total of the season at home and enough to claim maximum batting points for the first time this summer.
Having achieved their first target of 345 to avoid the follow-on, Yardy and Ben Brown laid into the leaders’ attack during an evening session that produced 210 runs in 33 overs.
With the third day of Worcestershire's game at Somerset washed out it means that Sussex are temporarily out of the division one relegation zone.
