Sussex coach Mark Robinson has revealed the torment star leg-spinner Mushtaq Ahmed is still suffering over the death of Bob Woolmer.

It is over two months since Woolmer was found in his hotel room in Jamaica the day after his Pakistan team were knocked out of the World Cup.

Mushtaq returned to Lahore last week for a few days with his family while he rested a sore knee.

But he was besieged by journalists after more speculation emerged about how Woolmer died.

Reports had suggested Woolmer had been poisoned after traces of weedkiller were found on a champagne glass in the hotel room.

Pakistan media manager Pervez Mir claimed that Mushtaq had given Woolmer two bottles of champagne days before his death.

Robinson said: "Mushy is still getting phone calls about Bob Woolmer every day.

"He went back to Pakistan for three days to try to spend time with his family because he hadn't had any time with them.

"Then all this thing about the champagne blows up and six or seven press men won't leave his house at all. It's been one thing after another for him and it has affected him massively.

"Mushy hasn't been allowed to move on - the press interference is ongoing and he hasn't got peace of mind.

"There are leaks from the Jamaican police about champagne and the next day they are saying Bob was not even murdered.

"Someone hasn't done their job very well in the Jamaican police for this many rumours to be going on."

Mushtaq has still taken 16 Championship wickets in four games so far and is Sussex's leading wicket-taker.

Robinson added: "He's a strong character. Despite everything he's bowled well."
