Sussex have ruled out a move for South Africa sensation Kagiso Rabada.

The county are still searching for a second overseas player to feature alongside New Zealand batsman Ross Taylor in the NatWest T20 Blast this summer.

Coach Mark Davis has confirmed that a bowler is top of his list but 20-year-old Rabada – who took 13 wickets in the final Test against England last week – is not on his radar despite stating he was keen to play county cricket to help his development.

Davis said: “We are getting there with the second overseas player and hope to tie something up in the next couple of weeks.

“I think it is going to be somebody who is stronger on the bowling side as we saw last season how you can get swept away by batters hitting big shots. It is vital to have bowlers who are capable of taking wickets to stem the flow of runs.

“It is extremely difficult to find the right person though. The environment changes almost on a daily basis as you can find a player who then appears for his country which means their national association don’t want to release him.

“You also have competitions like the IPL (Indian Premier League) and CPL (Caribbean Premier League) so it is difficult to nail someone down, especially when we would like someone for the whole of the NatWest T20 Blast to give us continuity of planning.

“We have known about Rabada, pictured, for a while and he is obviously a fantastic talent. He has said he would like to play in England but he wants to play all formats rather than just Twenty20 so perhaps that maybe something for another time.”

Mason Crane helped England’s under-19s to a 61-run win over the West Indies in Chittagong at the Under-19 World Cup.

The spinner from Worthing took1-44 in his eight-over spell as England bowled out the Windies for 221.

England earlier posted an impressive 282-7 in their 50 overs with Callum Taylor top scoring with 59.

Sussex’s George Garton did not feature for England, who top of Group D with two wins from two.
