Luke Wright believes Sussex should be awarded both points from their rained-off NatWest T20 Blast fixture with Hampshire.

The contest at the Ageas Bowl was called off after water got on the wicket and square during a heavy downpour. Each team received one point.

But Wright was unhappy that no play was possible and revealed via social media that the county would try to secure both points.

The Sussex skipper tweeted: “Unbelievable a 15 min heavy shower got the game called off tonight. So frustrating. Feel for all those who made the effort to come watch!”

He added: “I believe we should be given the points. We will certainly try.”

Wright was unhappy that Hampshire were unable to get the game on.

He said: “It was a heavy shower but to end up being called off because water has got on the pitch is very frustrating and not what you really expect from a Test ground.

“The groundsman said straight away he wasn’t expecting it but then the main covers he wanted to get on, because it was hail and coming down so quick, they were too heavy and he couldn’t get them on.

“He held his hands up and said ‘Look, I’ve got it wrong’.

“You wouldn’t have even played village cricket on it.”
