Luke Wells wants to take his game to the next level after signing a new two-year contract with Sussex.

The left-hander was tipped as a future England player when he broke into the first team at Hove in 2010 but has yet to receive international recognition.

The 25-year-old from Eastbourne provided a reminder of his talent by scoring four Championship centuries last season and is now looking to kick on after following Tymal Mills and Harry Finch in agreeing new deals.

Well said: “This is the club I’ve been at since I was nine years old so it’s nice to sign for another two years.

“I still don’t think I have fully lived up to my potential so I’m excited to make even further improvements so I can come back and score that big volume of runs which I know I am capable of.

“The club is in a period of transition at the moment and I’m really excited to be a part of that process to move the club forward, and move my own game forward.”

Wells made 859 Championship runs last season and is heading to Australia to play grade cricket for University of South Wales this winter.

Head coach Mark Davis said: “I’m very pleased that Luke has extended his contract. Having been capped this year, and scoring four first-class centuries, he has given us a very positive and clear indication that he is an integral part of the club moving forward.”
