Sussex star Jofra Archer has become an overnight sensation Down Under – with one of the world’s top pace bowlers leading the acclaim.
Archer took a double-wicket maiden on his Big Bash debut for Hobart Hurricanes.
The fact they lost at home to Melbourne Renegades did not detract from the headlines for the man who set Hove alight at times last summer.
Archer took 2-17 from his four overs and threatened to drag the Canes back into what had looked a lost cause.
Dale Steyn took to Twitter to lead the plaudits.
The South African paceman wrote: “Been keeping a keen eye on Jofra Archer whilst playing for Sussex (tipped by Will Davis), Playing BBL now, this kid is gana be special!”
Archer had Marcus Harris caught in the deep for 50 and then tied down Tom Cooper before having him caught behind off the final ball of the over.
Along the way, he clocked a shade over 91mph, leaving him behind just Aaron Summer and Tymal Mills, the Sussex quick who also plays for Hobart, on the BBL speed rankings.
Hobart set a modest 164-8 and were beaten by seven wickets with nine balls remaining.
They are in action again tomorrow at home to Sydney Thunder in a match which gets underway at 8.10am GMT.
