Sussex were bowled out for just 145 on the second morning of their Specsavers County Championship division two match against Gloucestershire at Hove.

Resuming on 86 without loss after a truncated opening day, Sussex lost all ten wickets for 59 runs in 26 overs, with Ryan Higgins taking a career-best 5-21.

Luke Wright was Sussex’s top scorer on the day with 13 – and he was dropped twice.

The overcast conditions suited the bowlers but a number of Sussex batsmen were left to rue their rash strokes.

Opening batsmen Luke Wells had added just two runs to his overnight 25 when he was caught behind pushing forward to Higgins.

And, in Higgins’ next over the other opener, Phi Salt, who was 54 not out overnight, skied to long leg for 63. But there was still little sign of the mayhem to come.

Stiaan van Zyl was caught in the gully off Higgins, Harry Finch was caught behind off Daniel Worrall and when captain Ben Brown was lbw to Worrall for a second ball duck Sussex were 105 for five.

Mark Burgess was sixth out at 116, edging Higgins to second slip, and then Ollie Robinson fell first ball, also caught in the slips.

When David Wiese lost his leg stump to Matt Taylor Sussex were 117-8 and even a brief flurry from Danny Briggs and Wright was not enough to bring respectability to the Sussex innings.

Gloucestershire even had an over of batting before the players went for lunch.
