Matt Prior is determined to prove the England selectors were wrong to drop him.

Prior opened his heart about his disappointment at being left out of the Test and one-day squads for the current tour of New Zealand for the first time today.

The Sussex wicketkeeper was at Hove with his mentor Alec Stewart working on some of the technical flaws which were hightlighted during the tour of Sri Lanka before Christmas and ultimately cost him his place in the international set-up.

Prior said: "I was shocked when I found out I had been dropped because I wasn't expecting it at all.

"I felt I had made some really big steps forward with my keeping in Sri Lanka and then had one disappointing day which let it all down. If that hadn't happened then who knows I might be in New Zealand.

"I've now got to work on some areas of my keeping but don't think I am far off at all. In fact I think for a lot of the time I was keeping wicket for England I did a great job. Unfortunately at that level have a poor test match and leave yourself open to a huge amount of criticism."
