Sussex Sharks returned to the top of the Pro40 League after thrashing Durham Dynamos by 193 runs at Hove tonight.

The Sharks piled up 277-6 from their 40 overs and then bowled out Durham for 84 in 24.1 overs after a sensational new-ball spell by James Kirtley.

The fast bowler took 5-26 in six overs to help reduce Durham to 44-5 including the key wicket of West Indies' star Shiv Chanderpaul.

Another West Indian - Sussex's all-rounder Dwayne Smith - earlier thrashed 54 off 30 balls while Murray Goodwin top-scored with 77 in Sussex's big total. Ed Joyce hit 49 in an opening stand of 75 with Rory Hamilton-Brown (37).

The Sharks can strengthen their position at the top of the table by beating Yorkshire Carnegie at Scarborough tomorrow.
