Sussex star Chris Nash is heading home from South Africa after breaking his right thumb while in practice with the England Performance Programme.
Nash, who this week signed a contract extension keeping him at Hove until 2012, will have an operation next week.
He will continue his rehabilitation under the guidance of the England medical team.
The Sussex batsman will not be replaced in the squad, which is due to stay in South Africa until December 17.
