Sussex Sharks wrapped up their seventh win in eight matches with an emphatic 39-run victory over Surrey Lions at The Oval.

Brendon McCullum and Murray Goodwin got the Sharks off to a flying start after being put in by Surrey.

They put on 43 in quick time following the early departure of Matt Prior but when McCullum fell for 34 and Goodwin followed in the next over for 28 the Sharks innings faltered.

Dwayne Smith hit successive sixes off Andrew Symonds but was then stumped off the bowling of Chris Schofield and the boundaries dried up.

Only important contributions from Chris Nash (32 not out) and Andrew Hodd 23 guided Sussex to a total of 158-7.

It looked unlikely to be enough when Rory Hamilton-Brown hit Nash for consecutive sixes in the first over to get Surrey on their way.

He fell to James Kirtley's first ball for 24 but Steve Davies and Mark Ramprakash continued the onslaught.

Surrey reached 57-1 in the eighth over when Hodd produced a brilliant stumping to get rid of Ramprakash and spark a collapse as the Lions lost their last nine wickets for just 62 runs.

Will Beer picked up the key scalps of Andrew Symonds and Steve Davies for 35 and after that there was no way back for Surrey.

Beer and Kirtley both finished with figures of 2-16 from their four overs while Chad Keegan mopped up the tail to post 3-11 off 2.5.
