Coach Mark Robinson hailed a “faultless” display as Sussex Sharks marched on in the Friends Provident t20.

The Sharks made 158-7 and then bowled out Surrey Lions for 119 at The Oval to seal their seventh win in eight matches and strengthen their position at the top of the south group.

Robinson said: “That is as good as it gets. There is no such thing as a perfect display but that was pretty close to it.

“We perhaps would have liked a batter to go on and get a big score but we were faultless in terms of our fielding and bowling.”

Brendon McCullum top-scored with 35 in his penultimate game for the Sharks before Will Beer and James Kirtley each took 2-16 as Surrey lost their last nine wickets for 62 runs.

The result means Sussex may only require two more wins from their remaining eight games to reach the quarter-finals but Robinson says there is no room for complacency ahead of the clash with Glamorgan at Hove on Wednesday.

He added: “We will go into the Glamorgan game full of confidence and belief but every team in this competition has matchwinners so every game is a challenge.

“We are in a strong position but this is a difficult competition with the amount of games you have to play so we need to stay on our toes.”

Chris Nash chipped in with 32 not out for a Sharks side who are now six points clear at the top of the group.
