Chris Nash has tipped Sussex to bounce back immediately after suffering a rare defeat at Taunton last night.

The Sharks paid the price for a shocking batting collapse as they went down to only their second defeat in 18 Twenty20 games against Somerset Sabres.

Matt Prior had given them an explosive start to the innings but when he fell Sussex lost five wickets for just five runs.

Nash repaired some of the damage with a fine knock of 44 not out as Sussex were bowled out for 159 with an over remaining.

That was never going to be enough at Taunton and the Sabres romped to victory with seven wickets and eight balls to spare.

It was only Sussex’s second loss in the Friends Provident t20 this season after going down to struggling Gloucestershire Gladiators.

They responded to that defeat by claiming impressive wins over Hampshire, Surrey and Glamorgan and Nash believes they can put this result behind them by beating Kent at Hove tomorrow.

Nash said: “You can’t win them all. We have won eight out of ten so far and if you had offered us that at the start we would have bitten your hand off.

“We are still in a good position with six games to go and now we have got to put this behind us and try to win as many of our remaining games to top the group and get a home quarter-final.

“We didn’t perform last night but we have been playing really well in the competition this season so we can’t grumble too much.

“Our strength is how we bounce back after a loss and we showed that last time with some big performances. Sometimes you have to lose one to appreciate winning more.”
