Nottinghamshire mounted a fight back after being made to follow on by Sussex at Hove following a dramatic batting collapse.

Skipper Mike Yardy decided to enforce the follow on after Notts crashed from 132-4 to 145 all out in the space of 33 balls.

James Anyon took his best figures for Sussex of 4-52 while Rana Naved and Monty Panesar both claimed three wickets.

Only Samit Patel and Adam Voges offered any resistance with a partnership of 87 but when they both fell in successive overs to Panesar the rest of the Notts batting folded in alarming fashion.

It left the trailing by 159 and Yardy decided to enforce the follow on during the tea interval.

Notts suffered a further blow early on as Neil Edwards was hit on the wrist by a delivery from Amjad Khan and was rushed to hospital while Rana trapped Akhil Patel lbw.

Mark Wagh and Samit Patel put on 92 for the second wicket though before Panesar struck late on to remove Wagh for 48.

Patel will resume in the morning on 49 along with nightwatchman Graeme Swann with Notts still trailing by 24.
